Tells when planet, moon or sun is visible
Rainer Lange, alcyone software
|
|
Planet's Visibility - Presents a deceptively simple 3-color graph that tells, at-a-glance, when a planet (or moon, sun) is visible from your location. The vertical axis marks the months of the selected year, with the horizontal axis marking the 24 hours of the day (in local time). The three colors create a contour map effect and identify when the selected object is visible, not visible, or "eclipsed" by the sun. A fixed cross hair identifies the current date and time. By moving the mouse over the graph area, the date and time, as well as the objects altitude, azimuth, and magnitude (or the phase of the moon if the moon is selected) are displayed. Over 400 cities representing virtually every country are predefined, and it's easy to add an own location. In addition the program shows the times of solar/lunar eclipses and the (relative) positions of the Galilean moons; 3741399 bytes.

Accurate digital orrery
Rainer Lange, Alcyone Software
|
|
Planet's Orbits is an accurate
digital orrery with a wealth of functionality. Orbits uses
time-dependent orbital elements for the calculation of planetary
positions (except for Pluto). Good accuracy is thus obtained for
the time range of +/- 4000 years. The most noteworthy functions
are date specification (past, future), 3D orbital animation and
custom zoom, orbits of 7000+ asteroids, and statistic and
information windows; 5098392 bytes.

Extracts plotted data points from image files
Marcus Karolewski
|
|
Tracer addresses the problem of
extracting plotted data stored in graphics files. Tracer reads
image files in Windows bitmap (*.bmp) or Jpeg (*.jpg) format.
Graphics files in other formats can be pasted into Tracer from the
Windows clipboard. Tracer's output is an (x, y) listing of data
points from the image. There are options for both manual and
automatic tracing of images; 578608 bytes.

Forecast Calculator
Robert Morris |
| Weather Forecaster v2.0 is a
short-term local forecast calculator. After answering several
questions regarding the current conditions, a brief forecast can
be obtained. Some conditions the Weather Forecaster asks for
include the barometer reading, humidity, wind direction, and the
amount of cloudiness; 229631 bytes. |

Hallo Northern Sky planetarium program
Han Kleijn |
| Hallo Northern Sky plots the night
sky for any time and location. It displays all stars to about
magnitude 12 (Tycho-2 2.5 million stars) and 10607 SAC deep sky
objects. It also shows all planets, Moon, Sun, moons of Mars,
Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, phases of the Moon and inner
planets, solar and lunar eclipses, rings of Saturn and minor
planets and comets. It has the ability to use the GSC or
"Guide Star Catalog" and or USNO SA1.0 / A2.0/SA2.0
CD-ROM databases with a limiting magnitude of about 15 or more.
The intention of the program is to familiarize you with the night
sky and prepare yourself with a map for a night with your
telescope. To help you with this, all deepsky objects are
displayed in the correct size and orientation if available. This
version V2.064c contains the complete SAO star catalog (250.000
stars), the complete SAC 7.1 deepsky database (10.000 objects) and
the windows deepsky help file containing about 1000 of A4 pages of
deepsky description of 2000plus and Steve Coe. The Tycho-1,
Tycho-2, Hipparcos or PPM star databases can be freely download
from the following web page; 4394947 bytes. |

Scientific vector graph
J.R. de Weille |
| XL-Plot v1.69 creates a figure for
scientific publication rapidly. It contains a few basic
statistical functions, such as Students t-test and linear
correlation of two sets of data (two columns in a spreadsheet). It
has a number of build-in functions that can be fitted to the data
in columns on a spreadsheet or to a curve in a graph. The user can
easily add fitting functions of his own design. Additional options
are Fourier Transformation, (de-)convolution and Matrix inversion.
The latter can be useful to solve a set of linear equations
simultaneously; 1815074 bytes. |

Computes magnetic variation & great
circles
Mike Harris |
| MagVar v2 isfor computing magnetic
variation and great circle courses and distances for anywhere on
the earth between 80 degrees north and 60 degrees south. Variation
is adjusted to the current date from the user's computer system
clock. Great circle courses are plotted against a world map
background; 627514 bytes |
